You can think of a streaming client as a stage for your livestream! Whether you want to record your face, your screen, or add any images, graphics, and anything in between to your stream, you’ll do this through your streaming client.

Streaming clients are what broadcasts the livestream to your service of choice from youtube and twitch to Koop which you’ll be using soon :) There are a variety of different streaming clients that you can use, however, we recommend our streamers use the Open Broadcasting Software also known as OBS which is a open sourced and free streaming client which is the industry standard.

You can learn more about OBS here.

Step 2: Connecting OBS to Koop

After downloading OBS you’ll need to install it onto your computer. You can do this in a few simple steps:

  1. Open up OBS.
  2. Grant OBS the relevant permissions for your computer. (This will allow you to screen-share, use your webcam, etc.)
  3. Run the auto-configuration wizard. (This will adjust your stream settings to the capability of your computer. Optimize for streaming over recording! We’ll make sure you have a high quality recording as well!)
  4. When it asks you for your streaming information select “custom” from the service dropdown menu.
  5. You will be asked for a “streaming key” and “server URL” these can be obtained from either your channel page or your stream management page within Koop!
